Abstract

Dusun Muhajirun, Negara Ratu Village, Natar District, South Lampung, is a strategic area with a strong socio-religious background, supported by an Islamic boarding school (pondok pesantren) and the active role of housewives (ummahat) in managing family food consumption. However, their knowledge regarding the quality and safety of poultry products (meat and eggs) is still low, which poses a health risk to the family due to the consumption of contaminated food. To address this problem, community service activities were carried out through an educational-participatory approach with the aim of increasing nutritional literacy and practical skills in selecting safe and quality poultry products. The solutions offered included education on the physical characteristics of fresh poultry products, demonstration of quality assessment practices using simple tools, and the distribution of quality guidance leaflets. The activity involved a team of lecturers from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung, assisting students, the ummahat group as the main partner, as well as community leaders and the pesantren (Islamic boarding school) authorities. Evaluation was conducted to measure the success of the program and the potential for sustainability through the dissemination of knowledge by the participants to their community. This community service activity successfully provided education on the importance of nutrition from poultry products for health and practical skills to the ummahat in Dusun Muhajirun. Their understanding of the importance of consuming quality poultry has increased, which is expected to have a positive impact on long-term family nutritional resilience.
